Tonight began the long and slow process of carving the scrollwork into the mask.
For the mouth openings I made a little stamp. I carved a shape out of 1/8" thick plastic and pressed it into place.
The lines are just miserable. Since this is a non-drying oil based clay, they don't really "carve" well. When you drag the tool through the clay you get little raised up lips around the groove, that then need to be smoothed out. Urgh. I should have picked one without scroll work!
Still though, it's coming along nicely. I figure another week and it will be ready for me to make the mold of it, then I can cast it in silver resin and have something nice to wear for the final movie!
