This weekend has been an awesome one at that!
It has been filled with some free music and free beer!
Friday night I saw the wrens. I got free food from my friends girlfriend, she made us baked ziti and garlic bread. It was quite nice! Then we rocked out to the wrens, we missed the two opening bands and saw some awesome music by the wrens. Everytime I see them they add something new to their songs! This time it was more technical at the beginning, it isn't the same songs as on the cd now. Plus for 40 yr old men they rock harder than most bands with 20 yr olds in them!
Last night I saw the Dresden Dolls for free. I didn't know what to expect from them since I only heard a few songs. Well I will tell you how I got in for free after analyzing the show. There was this introducer guy Stix or something his music was really interesting and fun. Then came The Red Paintings who are from Australia and are probably some of the nicest and most humble guys I have ever met. They were sayin how fortunate they were to be playing for these sold out crowds and people digging their stuff. They are weird punk rock with a violin and they do an awesome cover of the Donnie Darko song. Then came my favorite act of the night... Titler. It was this guy who came out in a dress with the hitler stash and haircut. He sat down at his keyboard and was hilarious singing about songs about how jesus isn't real, how the jews history is correct, and other politically and anti religious bending songs. It was quite funny. Then came the Dresden Dolls. They played well and had some of their traveling circus friends come on stage and do some dances... which was a lot of fun to watch. I enjoyed the songs, but besides the drummers comedy stick there wasn't to much more to their live show that would make it standoutish if one was to pay 22+ dollars for the show. But overall it was interesting with new forms of musical acts. Plus the traveling circus people were very fun to chat with and they made yummy candy covered apples.
Well I got in for free because Dresden Dolls touring manager is a Music For America volunteer. What is Music for America(MFA) you ask? Well Music For America is a non-party organization that tries to get younger people from the ages of 18-28ish range to register them to vote and make them aware of the candidtates and their views and what are some big issues out there today. I got involved with MFA because of two reasons. One was because I am very active politically and two I like the chance to get into shows for free!
Check out Music For America and get involved!
Oh and don't forget to vote on November 7th!
