Well it's saturday the 28th. i woke up this morning with a bit of a hang over from last night.hung out with my best friend and her best friend watching movies till like 2am. it was good times, i needd something like that after the last few weeks ive had. so anyways i go up to the donut shop up the street because i was craving a bear claw and i ran into some one that i guess was apart of my following when i was mixing at raves and clubs. he went on to tell me how he use to go to all my shows and how he has every remix or track ive put out. no im not at all the type thats big headed. im humbled that i even had a following to start with. so i offered to buy his breakfast ad we sat and chatted for awhile. he was a real cool guy and he honestly knew a lot about some of my shows that ive done. he even remembered this interview i did for this local magazine type thing called the wave. i was honestly taken back by all this. i mean i knew people seemed to dig my sets but i guess i never knew how much. and the then question came. "how come you stopped?"
well the truth is. theres a lot of fuckin politics behind the scenes. i spin and produce house. and being in the bay, there are a tone of people just like me. theres a lot of talent out here and thats great. but when it comes to doin shows, if you aint kissin ass you aint gettin booked. or if you have a large follwoin they will book you. but they will book you with a bullshit set time. now i dont kiss no ones ass and i believe your talent should speak for your self. im ot sayin im th best, but it amazed me how shady it was sometimes. ive played are parties where buddies of the promoters got prime time time slots. and i swear to god, their mixi sounded like shoes in a dryer. yet 2 hours before thre was a dj that fuckin blew the roof off that place but there was no one there to see him. shit like that pisses me off. i got dick a bunch of times myself. i mean i even got told when i threw a party my self. that if i didnt promote these guys who throw a lot of the events that they would give me opening time slots IF they even booked me at all lol. again i dont kiss no ass fuck that.
i explaind to this guy all about that shit and the politics and he couldnt blieve it. must people that arnt behid the scenes dont. so i told him my reasoning for hanging up the head phones was not because of the scene or anything. it was because of the politics. i became a dj because i lovd the music and i loved to make people dance. i loved droppin that 1 record at a party that every other dj was tryna get there hands on, and watchin the place just light up when they hear it. that shit was amazing to me and i miss it everyday. but now it aint about any of that. its about who you know and how many asses you can kiss. its not about talent any more. all they care about is the money and i dont want no part of that. i just stick to producing. atleast with that i still have the chance to make people move without having to degrade my self.
all in all it was pretty fuckin cool. i gave him my number and the guy acted like he wo the lotto. it was just something you would never think would happen to you. it made me feel good that even after all this time of not mixing. people still know who i am.
good times!!!
