Hi, I'm Steve, or Steven, or Steven-Elliot if I'm being shouted at by a family member. I'm a huge fan of SG and once upon a time I even called into the radio show and won tickets to an SG show here in Hollyweird.
Then fate handed me the pleasure of meeting the hosts last year, and I was invited to be on that very show for an interview about my latest novel The Killswitch Review. The girls felt the book was very SG.
Now I'm coming onboard to serialize and share the book for free with all of you on SG's Fiction Friday Feature on the SG Blog. It's starts in two days and I'll post the link here as soon as I get it. I'm new to SG.com but I think it's best if you post any comments about the book on the official blog once we know the URL, not here.
Here's the link to Chapter One, you can read it in the CULTURE section on SG.com here SuicideGirlsLifestyle
or on the SG Blog here SuicideGirlsBlogFictionFriday
So, without further ado, let me introduce you to... The Killswitch Review with the back jacket copy:
In the tradition of Blade Runner and Brave New World comes a terrifying postmodern vision...
By the year 2156, stem cell therapy has triumphed over aging and disease, extending the human lifespan indefinitely. But only for those who have achieved Conscientious Citizen Status. To combat overpopulation, the U.S. has sealed her borders, instituted compulsory contraception, and made technology-assisted suicide readily available. But in a world where the old can remain vital forever, America's youth have little hope of prosperity.
Jason Haggerty is an investigator for the government agency responsible for dispensing personal handheld devices that record a citizen's dying moments. When three teens stage an illegal public suicide, Haggerty suspects their deaths may have been murders. Now his race is on to uncover proof and prevent a nationwide epidemic of copycat suicides. Trouble is, for the first time in history, an entire generation might just decide they're better off dead.
I had to write a bio about myself for the blog, and in doing so I was made aware that I'd actually written quite a lot of stuff by this point in my life, and it lifted my spirits. I thought, Fuck Steve, not bad. You're really doing this writing thing. So, I hope that I can act as some sort of encouragement to any would-be writers on here, or for anyone who digs what they'll be reading from me in the next couple of months.
Here's the bio I cleverly wrote in the third person:
Steven-Elliot Altman is a bestselling author, Hollywood screenwriter, and most recently a successful videogame developer, having won multiple awards for his online role playing game 9Dragons. Steven's novels include Captain America is Dead, Zen in the Art of Slaying Vampires, Batman: Fear Itself, Batman: Infinite Mirror, The Killswitch Review, The Irregulars and Deprivers. In reviews of note his writing has been compared to that of Stephen King, Dean Koontz, Michael Crichton and Philip K. Dick, and he has collaborated with world class writers such as Neil Gaiman, Michael Reaves, Harry Turtledove and Dr. Janet Asimov. He's also the editor of the critically acclaimed anthology The Touch and a contributor to Shadows Over Baker Street, a Hugo Award winning anthology of Sherlock Holmes meets H.P. Lovecraft stories.
Steven admits he also bares ink on his body, and is bi, as in bi-coastal, between NYC and LA. He's currently hard at work writing and directing his latest videogame Cursed Love, an online free to play gothic horror RPG from Dark Hermit Studios, set in Victorian London. Think Sherlock Holmes, Jack The Ripper and Dorian Gray mercilessly exploit the cast of Twilight. Friend Cursed Love (Official Closed Beta) on facebook and you can have fun playing out this tawdry, tragic romance with Steven while the game is being beta tested!
That's me, I'm Steve. Feel free to leave a note and say Hi or ask me whatever. In my PICS section I'll be posting some "bonus material" and I'll add the TV spot for the book into the Videos section (though I see the quality sucks so it'd probably be better on youtube) and who knows what else I'll throw up here (guess that'll depend on what I've been drinking).
Oh and if you start reading and you're impatient and you decide you simply cannot wait and you're just dying to buy a printed copy of The Killswitch Review than you'll be happy to know my publisher Yard Dog Press was kind enough to put up a special page where Suicide Girls can get a special discount and watch their sexy television commercial for the novel. Just follow this link to KillswitchReview.com and click the SG logo, thanks Yard Dog!

Here is a bit of dialogue from this weeks installment. In the future, the kids refer to themselves as Generation Zero, because they realize theyll be the first generation that will not be allowed to reproduce themselves one for one due to mandatory birth restrictions and financial pressures. So they begin to brand themselves with branding irons for solidarity against a society that suppresses them a helluva lot worse than ours ever could. Our ingnue character, Regina, has an interesting explanation for it, that I drew from a rationale I heard once for why some teenagers cut themselves
Why would they brand themselves? he finally asked.
Regina was thoughtful. Theyre fucked, and they know theyre fucked, she began. The odds are against them, for jobs, children, even happiness. That has a sort of numbing effect, ya know?
Haggerty did know.
And when youre numb to the world, to yourself, and youre not feeling anything feeling nothing at all you go to extremes. You hurt yourself until the pain rushes in and tells you youre alive. Her tone turned flippant. Besides, its the latest in celebrity fashion. No more dangerous than getting pierced or tattooed.
Shine on and have a great weekend!
