My poor kitty is going through so much right now. We noticed her not acting like herself last night at to her to the vet ER and they guy couldn't say if she had a blockage or not. so he gave her some meds normally used on dogs for nausea and sent us home. When we got home she ran down stairs and spit up clear liquid and began drooling profusely to the point where she was soaked from her chin down hwe chest and was leaving a trail of dribble spots when she moved. SO we called and the vet said it was a normal sign of nausea and that we should wait to see if she felt better. At this point we were suspicious of his diagnosing skills so we kept a pretty close eye on her( checking on her every 5 to 10 mins). We went to check on her and smelt the most horrid diarrhea smell, we thought "oh, good! shes passed whatever was making her ill." A quick check of her litter box reviled no signs that she had pooed. we followed the smell to the living room where she was crouched in a ball and a huge piddle was in front of her. It was clear w/ blood tingeing it, the smell was horrid and her face was covered. We then rushed the half hour drive back to the E.R where the guy hemmed and hawed but would not say she had a blockage for sure. So he put her on fluids and antibiotics and tested the sample of the stuff from the floor. he came out and asked us if we were sure that she had puked it because it was filled with a certain type of bacteria from the intestine and such large numbers that it was toxic. We waited for our vet to open while she was getting fluids because at this point she was so dehydrated that she could not really move. she just laid there all limp. we rushed her to our vet where they said she was going into shock and that they needed to do surgery so that she could live. she had a bowel obstruction that was a highly condensed hairball about the size of a thumb. It went well and only took minimal time. they did have to cut her intestines though so they are worried about a number of post -op concerns. We agreed with them that we wanted her supervised for the next 48 hours. Mind you we are making every decision on no sleep getting into the 30 something hour mark. There is a place close by that does that sort of care so we took her there for the night and in the morning we pick her up and she stays the day with our vets. From there we have to see if she can keep fluids down and then we'll see if she should do an unsupervised night or a night at home. we are scared to take her home. We don't want to fuck any of this up. In total we've spent about 5 grand in the last day trying to save her life. She is our baby and we want whats best for her even if it isn't coming home for a couple of days. *sigh*
More bad news: My grampy Clive died at camp this weekend. Now my dad's neck is bothering him again which could be his spin condition acting up so it might mean another surgery.
I'm so tired I just want everything to be better.
