I've been noticing in the past few years, people becoming increasingly angry. Perhaps it's an anger at the world, Anger with their lives, Anger of their status. It's heartbreaking. But more and more, I've observed a more Agressive Anger that scares me. You never know when someone will snap. It's such a scary thing. People getting in other peoples faces just because they can. I mention this because of a conversation I overheard at Barnes & Noble the other day. A group of 3, oh I'd say, 17 year old boys talking to 2 younger girls and bragging about how they beat up the neighborhood outcast, and i quote, "because they could". Nevermind the years of embarrassment the poor boy probably had to endure but then to get beat up just "because they could". Now, granted, the boys could have been lying but i had friends in high school who did the same thing to the outcast of our class. EVERY SINGLE DAY, they would come up behind him after lunch and throw him to the ground. He never got angry at them, never yelled at them, just picked his stuff up and went on his way. I remember him walking down the hall, them shouting his name, his face getting red, and just ignoring him. Sometimes i wish he had fought back. Sometimes i wish i would have done more. I saw him the other day. Walking down the street in a dirty torn sweatshirt, his hair dissheveled. I'm sure he had other problems in his life. But what if i had done something to prevent one of them. My question is though, where are the parents? role models? the people who should be showing these kids that fighting isn't a reason to think you are cool? where are they?
