All right,
Back from a week in Chicago and a few days in Detroit. Just my luck, in an effort to escape the 105+degree days in Texas found me in the midwest during a heat wave. 97 degrees with the lake humidity doesn't provide the wanted respite, but no matter, lots of Chicago dogs and deep dish. Determined that the Italian slice is more my speed--have had plenty of deep dish but wanted to make sure I sampled it from the source before I made my final call. Interestingly enough, the deep dish was actually 'invented' by a Texan who moved to Chicago...
Found myself in the midst of Chicago Jazz Festival and was able to partake in lots of free jazz. Best was Ravi Coltrane and his saxaphone group. Definitely keeping his daddy's name in good standing.
Lots of Jazz clubs, some better than the others. Green Mill was good, the Back Room was total shit--20 dollar cover and 10 dollar bourbon and club soda's!!! Left there right after I walked in. The Underground Wunder Bar was more up my alley, a super cozy little club with totally friendly (and completely speeded out!) staff...good times.
