SO, being as big a geek as I am I was listening to NPR and heard this guy talking about emergence which is baisically the phenomenon of how a bunch of random stupid individual things can all come togeether without any external driving force and organize themselves into one giant intelligent whole. Best examples: ants and neurons. without a driving source ants run helter skelter but when there is food, they organize themselves into neat little lines and work efficiently. amazing. so anyway I ordered this:
