It's been quite some time since I posted a blog, so I thought I'd better get to it. Things haven't been too bad of late, other than being extremely broke this week because of a pileup of a huge doctors bill, student loan payment, and a rather hefty startup bill for my new cell phone. So I have a grand total of $.90 in my checking account. Bleh! At least I have plenty of groceries and 3/4ths of a tank of gas to last me until next Friday.
Work has been interesting the past few weeks. My boss got married and was gone for close to two weeks to prepare for her wedding and take her honeymoon. And of course, once she was gone, things went FUBAR at the store. Around 1:30 am- about midway through one of my shifts- a regular customer comes screeching back into the parking lot after leaving with his purchases, hurries into the door, and tells me I have GOT to see this. He leads me outside where I immediately hear water flowing. There was a stream of water pouring down the parking lot from underneath the median of the road parallel to our storefront- the water main had broken. I went back inside and called the police non-emergency number to report it, and then placed a call to the woman who was supposed to take over as store leader while our boss was gone. She didn't pick up the phone. It occurred to me to call our tech support, but didn't think there was a whole lot they could do from Wisconsin about a water main break in Iowa. The guy the county sent to check it came in and informed me that I had 30 minutes yet before they turned off our water to stop the flow from the broken main. I did the best I could- made coffee like a crazy woman, and ran buckets upon buckets of water. Later, when 1st shift came in, forewarned about the situation, one of them decided to call our boss despite the fact she was on vacation. The interim store leader was still unreachable. She told us to call tech support, and when we did they basically said, "Wow, that means you can't make coffee or anything. Well, ask the workmen when they think they will have it fixed." A ton of help, that. The two 1st shift gals and I- all long term, full-time employees- then had to make the decision on our own whether or not to make food that day. We decided it was still possible, and we did have plenty of water to wash dishes and such. Turns out that was the wrong decision- it was against the health code, and they shut down food production around noon. The store was without water for 16 hours, and now we had pissed off the health inspectors. Fantastic. The next morning, the interim shift leader chewed me out for calling her and waking her up, despite the fact that she didn't bother to pick up her phone to help me. Somehow, I was relieved that it was only a water main break that I had been trying to contact her about, not a burglary or assault on my own person, or maybe that the store was burning to the ground. Heaven forbid I interrupt her beauty sleep. Then she ripped into me and one of the 1st shift girls that had collaborated in the decision to make food that day. Not that we'd had one bit of help in making that decision from her or anyone else, but apparently we should have been psychic and just KNOWN that was against health code. I mentioned to her that having a water main break wasn't exactly an everyday occurance and that we had done the best we could. She had to concede that point. I was royally pissed. Two days later, the tornado sirens went off- and I wound up locking up the store and going to our storm shelter where I sat on the floor, terrified, for about a half an hour while the electricity went spotty. The next week, I worked 8 days in a row, and collapsed after I was finally done. Over about a period of 5 days last week, I practically moved in with my boyfriend. I loved it. We watched movies, ate together, teased each other, had a lot of deep conversations, and had a ton of incredible sex. It was a sort of trial run for living together. If anything, we only wanted to see more of each other, even after spending every free moment together. I really hated it when we had to go back to seeing each other for a few hours every other day- I missed his constant presence terribly. We determined that we didn't get sick of each other- not by a long shot- and that moving in together would likely work really well for us. Our relationship is definitely growing stronger with each passing day. I feel very blessed to have him in my life.
My brother- now 16- finally got a truck. My Dad bought it for him. The next day after they got it home, he managed to screw things up royally. Dad told him expressly not to drive it- we didn't have license plates for it, and hadn't heard back from the insurance company as to whether it was officially insured. Not only did he drive it, but he managed to burn out the clutch on it- which led to dropping more money on repairs than my Dad spent on it in the first place. He was in deep crap. I mentioned to him that if he'd been caught by the cops while he was driving it around he wouldn't have a license anymore. I'm surprised Dad didn't kill him.
Nothing much else to report. I have a few days off, and am planning on enjoying them. Around the 5th of next month, my guy is taking me to a day long concert extravaganza in Indianola, Iowa. That will be so much fun. I'm really looking forward to it.
Hope life is treating you well. Y'all take care of yourselves.

It's good that you got a bit of a test for living together. I always worry when people move in together, that within a day one or both of them will regret it.
And incredible sex?
Your brother is funny. I could never have the nerve to drive without plates. I mean, that's one of those things that's kind of hard to hide if you pass a cop. And without insurance too. He's very lucky he wasn't caught.
You have tornado sirens?
That's so cool. I'm not in a tornado area, so we don't have anything like that. I know a lot of people have tornado radios or something like that too.
Your useless tech support people should have told you not to make any food. But your useless interim store leader should have picked up the phone. She must have caller ID to see it was the store calling.
How much you wanna bet that she didn't even know it was against regulations to have food without running water? She probably only knew because of the warning.
I don't mean to be rude, but why are you so broke? You work a lot of hours and I'm not sure, but what do you pay for rent? Although I guess if you had a big doctor's bill, that could do it. Are you okay?
A new cell phone? What's that make? Number 147?
