Wow, I can't believe it's been over two months since my last post. Haven't been on SG that much, obviously. whatever I've been working a lot, and reading like crazy. I've gotten a voracious reading bug, and for some reason, it just isn't going away. I've spent more money on books in the last few months than DVDs- which is a complete turnaround. Normally (well, for me biggrin ) I spend most of my extra $ on DVDs to add to my collection- which has become rather extensive. Oh, and food, of course. So I don't know where this reading bug has come from or how long it's sticking with me, but I'm having fun diving into new authors and series while keeping up with my favorites.

The end of Feb/ beginning of March was rather interesting. The last week in Feb. there was a big, nasty ice storm that came thru the Midwest and shut down power almost statewide. Heat was, of course, an issue and I stuck out our days without power at my Mom's place- we stayed downstairs where there was a fireplace, and I laid in a months supply of candles so we'd have light. I always told people I would be just fine in the days before electricity. As long as I have my candles and books, I'm entertained. It was like camping, complete with tending the fire and burnt hot dogs, only we were at home. I kind of got screwed over, because although both of my parents places lost power- the place I work never did. So... with the exception of being drifted in the night of the storm, I still had to go to work. About our third day, even with the fireplace, the cold was becoming a problem... but that night a little before 8 the power came on! I was doing my little happy dance and my brother was singing the Hallellujah chorus in falsetto. I also made a beeline for the microwave.

My Aunt (one of my best friends on the planet as well as a blood relative smile ) wanted to come down for my birthday, but we got hit with another blizzard just in time for the weekend we were celebrating it. She couldn't make it. We wound up staying in, making homemade pizza, and watching movies. Mom took me out to Applebee's the next day after the weather had it's fun.

About a week ago I had a day of beauty which included cutting off five inches of my hair. This still left me with hair just a little shorter than waist-length, but my boyfriend still gave me a look like a whipped puppy when I told him how much I'd had taken off. I patted his arm and told him in soothing tones that it would grow back. Poor baby.

My car is falling apart, and most of it happened last night. Yes, I have a practically nonexistant dashboard, broken tail light, brights that like to stick on, and a gas guage that would let me run out of gas while still registering a half a tank. But this is all inconsequential... things that could be adapted to. Last night, while driving to work in a thunderstorm, my windshield wipers decided it would be fun to flop off the side of the windshield and nearly make me drive off the road. I had to pull over and get out three times in the pouring rain to push them back into the correct position and make sure they weren't just going to do the same thing in three more strokes before getting back on the road. Then, about two blocks from my work, my steering gets wonky, and I hear this thumping noise coming from the rear of my car. I slow way down, make it to the parking lot, and find that my rear tire is flat as a pancake. So, I leave it parked, and go in to work my shift.... which was crappy. I had to force back tears twice... and I next to never cry. So, after work my Dad and I change the tire- which was not fun since I spend a lot of time on gravel roads- the nuts were practically cemented on. We looked it over and found an inch-wide hunk of metal firmly imbedded right in the middle of the tread. Yup, that'd mess up a tire but good. So, I put on my little dinky donut tire, and trundle on home on it while my Dad threw the blown tire in the back of his truck to take it in and see if there's any way to save the thing. whatever Fan-friggin'-tastic day. Someone shoot me. blackeyed

I won't shoot you.

I can't believe you actually posted an entry and I didn't see it for two weeks!! Yikes!!

My bad.

Sorry your car is dying.

I once got a flat, didn't realize it at first, so I kept driving. Apparently, that damages the car, I discovered.

Years ago, my mom's minivan had a gas guage like that. We had to get into the habit of filling the tank often, for fear of running out, because it would show half a tank, and then suddenly plummet to empty and start flashing the low fuel light.

I dread being without power for days. I've been very lucky that it hasn't happened to me. Other parts of Ontario have had ice storms or wind storms that have knocked out power to people for a week. I worry if the power goes off for an hour.

I have no idea where my candles are, though I do have some. I also have a couple lighters and some matches, but no idea where. And I'm certain I have a couple flashlights. But, yeah, I'd be hard pressed to find them in the dark.
