I'm more than a little pissed off at someone today. I violently dislike being talked down to because I don't have a kid. I'd gone through a rough patch over the last few years, and was discussing that with some friends last night. Then, one of them piped in that she had never had similar problems, and she "has a daughter". As if to say, you're not a parent, who the hell are you to say you have problems? And again, when I was mentioning the feeling of being pulled in a dozen directions at once by friends and different sides of my family shortly after my parents divorce, she sniffed and said, "I've NEVER had trouble managing my time," and once again added her trump card, "and I have a child."
I was more than a little annoyed with her at this point and mentioned that she also didn't have divorced parents. She snapped, "I don't have to." And started lecturing me.
I just stared at her. For a parent up for sainthood, she was really being a pain in the ass.
I know that being a parent wasn't something I was prepared for my entire life. It was an intensely personal decision for me- I just concluded that there was no way in hell I was going to bring my child into an unstable environment with a mother who simply wasn't ready. So I either kept my damn legs closed or made sure to use very reliable birth control.
This woman on the other hand, had a child due to an unplanned and unwanted pregnancy- so the kid was born into a home with an absentee ass of a father, and a mother who didn't exactly provide her with a stable home life, either. She's continuously foisting her daughter off on her parents, goes out every weekend to party- pretty much straight through, and whenever I've been around, keeps her daughter shut up in her room and yells at her.
She also "needs" welfare to feed her kid, and yet can afford a new car and brand new furniture.
I just shut up and tried to ignore her that time, but the next time she's in the mood to lecture me because I've made the decision to wait until I'm ready to have a child- I'm going to tell her to blow it out her ass!
