alrighty then... so this morning I wake up a decide it's time... oh yes it's time to surprise visit my dad for the first time since I returned to australia june 2003. and it was super awesome.
so my dad is happy. which makes me happy. i haven't seem him happy in a long time. he's always been melancholy. but he saw us and his world was alight. he couldn't stop talking and planning with andy, designing instruments, buying lambrettas to do up, explaining what a mircochip is to amy, playing some songs on the martin... oh it was nice to be home again.
I really do love my dad very dearly and although my parents were far from perfect on providing that home environment, I am thankful for the gift of music and independence that I did get from them.
I ended up walking away with some Kinks and the Who vinyl and some fairport convention and the pentangle. since andy and I have started collecting vinyl i've always had albums i won't buy because i know one day i'll inherit them... I love original press stuff as well - and I love the stories that come with them. The Who Sells Out - great album cover.
Hey everyone - what was the first song you ever loved? And what was the second song you loved? For me - Yellow Submarine. I freaking loved that song. I'd make my dad play it over and over for me. And then it was Puff the Magic Dragon. I of course had no idea that it was drug reference and I had only ever heard it played by my dad and his folk band friends - not the original.
