Today I’d love to encourage the SG community to take the time to read though this thread in support of the blackout.
For you to be able to read multiple models point of view about their concerns is more powerful than just me telling you about my personal experiences and how it feels to be a black woman on the site.
All I ask is that you process these words, feelings, and thoughts as they are as relevant now as they were when they were originally commented and stated back in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.
Going forward, I ask that you pay attention to what you see. There aren’t many black hopefuls that get tagged in blogs, threads (like top 5 favorites/what hopefuls should be SGs, what sets should be SOTD ect) and things of that nature. When I first started here I felt part of the community but after my first year, I didn’t. This year has been different for me. I took a new approach to how I want my journey to go. I attended a shootfest, put in more work, and uplift what I love about this community. Now I regularly get tagged in threads/blogs, my sets do “well”, and that’s what I want other black hopefuls to experience also. I realize SG is a business and of course they will choose those who represent them the best and we want the opportunity to rep why we love this place more than we have over the years.
I am thankful for the support from not just the founder of SG, but from other models, members, and fans. One person speaking up can inspire so many others to do the same!
Thank you to the SuicideGirls community for standing with us! I hope this continues forward and the site will still grow with diversity long after those of us who are here now become vintage SGs ourselves.
Sincerely,
StarStuff 🌟
