Work is easy and going well, and I'm doing fine.
Listening to Penn Jillette's radio show is truely a treat. He's a hero of mine, along with other skeptics like James Randi. They just did a radio show about the new "breakthrough" in Autism research. WHICH IS BULLSHIT! It's a therapy that has been roundly disproved by the APA, The American Psychiatric Association, as well as many other highly credible agencies that have done numerous studies (45) on facilitated communication. 100% of those studies have proven the technique to be ineffective and have linked all communications to the facilitator. This isn't even NEW news. The Facilitated Technique was disproven years ago, this is OLD news. The real horror of it is these people who KNOW the technique doesn't work give false hope to families with autistic kids.
I read about this bogus technique when I was a psychology undergrad 4 years ago. I'm surprised and shocked that a respected magazine like TIME would trot out something so bogus and spin it off as a breakthrough.
If that weren't enough, my own government makes me sick. Congress, House of Reps, White House.. all of 'em. I'm so sick of this shit. Gross spending on war, while we neglect the health and education of our own citizens. Our debt is increasing astronomically, and no one in power is thinking about the future impact this will have on future generations.
I send letters, donate to worthy causes (Word up, Planned Parenthood). There is only so much I can do with such a limited income. I do know that this will make a difference though, if not a visible one, I'll at least know I tried to fight some of this shit.
That was quite a rant.
In happier news, I've been listening some excellent, EXCELLENT new music: Communique and Far Beyond Frail . Wonderful bands! My music makes me love my life.
However lonely that may be at the moment.
Fuck that lonliness though, I've got great friends. Wonderful friends. Both on (
to whoever reads this) and more importantly offline. I haven't been too active in posting journal entries here, it makes me seem like a deadbeat and for that I apologize. I do try and check up on all you guys when I can, and do my best to leave a comment once in awhile when I can say something of import.
And it's uber late, but I'd really like to thank all of you that sent me birthday wishes on my birthday. It meant a lot. Thanks so much!
See you guys around. Hopefully I'll be posting more here.
