I'm up, and I was seeing if anything good was on tv. After consulting my handy web TV Guide I discovered that only two items deemed my attention, they were "The Day The Earth Stood Still" on AMC, and the Opening Ceremonies on NBC. So, I flipped to the Winter Olympics and after about 5 minutes I found the commentary by Matt Lauer and Katie Couric so goddamn annoying that I flipped back to TDTESS. The Olympics would be so much easier to watch if there weren't two yapping dimwits telling me every single damn thing about the history of some gold medal hopeful. I just want to see the people do their thing. I don't need NOR do I care to know that Mom and Dad are proud. OF COURSE THEY ARE! Their kid is in the goddamn Olympics!
I'm still pissed at them for fucking up the opening ceremony for the Summer Olympics 2 years ago. Bjork was the main act in the opening ceremonies for the last summer Olympics, and I was so excited to just be able to watch her sing her song.. except for the fact that Matt and Katie spent most of the time talking over her singing and making fun of her. In all the other broadcasts of the opening ceremonies from other news agencies the commentators SHUT THE HELL UP during the performance and after it was done they just said something along the lines of "That was Bjork." Which is all that really needs to happen.
Leave it to NBC to put the shame in the Olympic games.
I equivocate the Olympics with watching a movie, and I don't need some chatterbox telling me fun facts/odds n' ends about the movie while I'm WATCHING it. I just want to observe and see for myself. I don't need any more information other than who the athelete is, what country they represent, and what they need to score to break a record. That's it. I care about nothing else.
I finished up by watching the rest of TDTESS, which really drives home the point that the human race in general is comprised of fearful, arrogant, malevolent asshats.
Word.
I like older B&W movies because the acting and scripting is so much better since there aren't many special effects to distract you, and when there are, they are obvious. So when the director of the film wants to get a point across, ie King Kong - Humans are the monsters., it's easier to do so. Grayscale seems more gripping to me too. That being said, not all directors of today use special effects to distract or confuse, but to highlight.
