I wouldn't ever join a club where I knew they discriminate towards gays, lesbians or people of certain religions and/or ethnicities. Therefore, I think it would be hypocritical of me to ever get married when gays and lesbians are not allowed to do so and are forced to be second class citizens. I dont state this to make a point to people who are already married but for my own personal belief that an injustice is occurring. Our founding fathers of our nation stated in the Declaration of Independence that all men are created equal so when the right of one man in diminished that the rights of all men are also diminished. Martin Luther King Jr said that he had a dream that one day his four little children would be judged by the content of their characters and not by the color of their skin. His message still holds true today and the fight for equality still continues as all people should be judged by their characters and not by the color of their skin, their sex or by their sexual orientation. I feel that we should be promoting more love in this world instead of advocating more hate. Robert kennedy once said "let us dedicate ourselves to what the Greeks wrote so many years ago: to tame the savageness of man and make gentle the life of this world." He also said "few will have the greatness to bend history itself, but each of us can work to change a small portion of events. It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the life of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance." I dedicate my life to creating a ripple and standing up against injustice and that is why I refuse to join the institution of marriage until everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, can join. I dedicate my self to doing what I can to make sure that such injustices are stopped and that the current discrimination in marriage will one day no longer be an issue.
