I am fiending for a new full-blown RPG game to play. I just watched some trailers for the various Final Fantasy XIII games, and even the super blocky low-res Youtube compression can't hold back whatever glands in my mouth produce drool.
But the release date (for Japan) is a year from today.
So! Final Fantasy XII is only $20 now! I think I want it now. I almost bought it when it was much newer (and three times as expensive), but I think I ended up buying a Wii. Obviously I made the correct decision. (Okay, it was the store's grand opening and I figured they already sold all their Wiis--if they had any. After a very bizarre conversation with the register jockey, it was revealed that they still had some Wiis in stock and I suddenly had $300+ less money in my bank account).
So, FFXII. I suppose I can handle the fact that it's a last generation (if not older) PS2 game because it had better be fucking awesome. As of now, the best looking games I've played (excluding five second demos at malls/cons/etc.) are Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Galaxy. Yeah, I know. But their art direction has been incredible, and one thing I like with both is that the "cut scenes" (such a weird term) are never pre-rendered movies; instead the gameplay just looks great. But Square(-enix) has been doing amazing "cut scenes" since FFVIII (FFVII was good for its time, but VIII blew everything away). So a decade later I expect XIII's to be Advent Children-like.
But aside from the yummy graphics, I want a good 60 hour hardcore RPG game. I haven't had one since I re-started Chrono Cross and then my decade old memory finally died (and then I re-re-restarted it and then Zelda: Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime 3, etc., etc. came along...).
Anyway. I think we'll be going to a party soon. Time to bury this year in alcohol. Or maybe just dilute it. It's been a long time since I've drank a lot in one sitting.
