Well, it's been a little while.
Friday night I met up with Ben and we got some dinner, then went to our friend's house, some more friends came by and we, get ready for it, played some Magic. Yes, as in The Gathering (not the band). Though I was lame and got tired and couldn't stay too late. I got to bed at 2 and had to wake up early for things I will not go into.
Sunday I, as Pete said, admitted defeat. I moved out of my brother and Enid's and back in with my aunt and uncle (effectively my parents; I've lived with my aunt for about 17 years of my life). I did that Sunday, and incredibly everything fit inside the Ultra Camry. I moved out of Mark's because of a large rent increase over at the Ginker/Elemental studio and Mark decided to move the office back to his house. Which used to be in his basement. Where I used to keep my shit.
Sunday night I went to Philly, Ember returned from Nowheresville, NY (aka her home) and we got some dinner at the Italian Bistro and some talking. We ended up ordering the same things we got the last time we were there, and mine sucked just as bad (it sounds so much better on the menu!). We were supposed to hit up my friend Tony's, but by the time dinner was done it was at least 10 pm and I was getting tired (I usually get tired around 10:30, but I don't move shit for hours on a normal day). So we went back to her (my old) apartment.
Her friends, the new roommates, were mostly settled in already. They just moved in. It's very eerie walking through the same yet very different apartment.
Ember made french toast in the morning (I never remember if the F is capitalized for french toast/fries). Then to work. Waking up after the sun is a nice feeling. I miss living four blocks from work, rather than two train rides and then four blocks.
Work is going well this week, which is odd because three people are on vacation this week and I've already had to pick up some slack. So far everything has been relatively easy and sometimes even fun. Lots of short projects. Also I'm doing lots of Sprout work. As odd as it is, I don't mind changing it up going from Comcast/On Demand stuff to the cartoony kids stuff for Sprout. It's a nice way to keep things fresh. Even though I could never use the Sprout work for my reel (again, I'm animating someone else's still artwork which is... frowned upon in demo reels).
I should be working... but the art director (who was in Puerto Rico all of last week. The envy...) has gone missing and I need her to submit a test render for approval. Otherwise I can keep working so they can axe the whole thing and I'll have wasted my time. Which I kind of hope they do because some of the artwork needs to be recreated for our purposes; and if they want us to do it, we'll charge them more.
Well, another person called me, this woman I think works as the go between for the graphics team and the client (her job position confuses me since I see the art director dealing with the Sprout people all the time). She asked for the file, I gave it to her. She called back asking why it was different than what the client wanted. This is why I wanted the art director to do this. Because the way the client wanted it, it did not work and this bird (which is the main focus, aside from the logo of the sponsor) was halfway past the title safe lines. Plus the animated cloth doesn't work at all (apparently it was made for something else and someone thought it could work for this too, NO.).
But, since clients ... did not major in art, animation, design, nor broadcast graphics, they have to see it to believe us. She asked me do it the way the client wanted. Which means I needed to reanimate it to how I had it like three hours ago. She's lucky I was bored. I re-made the crap (it's less crappier this time, but still goes beyond title safe).
Ahh, the art director returns. She agrees with me that they both suck. But we probably won't hear comments from the client till tomorrow... so that means only one thing. Time to go home.
