Yesterday I was moved to the main building at work. So instead of being across the street from the graphics department, I'm just down the hall. I'm sharing an edit suite with another graphics guy (but he doesn't work Thursdays and Fridays... Is he part time? Does he work the weekends instead? Questions I will ask him Monday. While I try not to get intimidated by the fancy awards on the wall) and an editor. There should only be an editor in here, no one else; except for the occasional client.
On the wacky side, the editor has iTunes/something playing most of the day, and dredg came on. That marks the second person outside of my circle of friends who actually knows them. Okay three if I count Dan knowing someone who listens to them. But each of the last two occasions were songs off their latest album, which I do not like as much as their first two. Oh well. Actually, his name is Scott, which goes along with my theory that every Scott on Earth is musically inclined in some way (He might do audio work, too). I should ask him if he knows Porcupine Tree. C'mon, he's got long hair. He knows how to rock.
Speaking of rock action (and not the Mogwai album... why I said that I don't know, I'm not even a Mogwai fan), there are rumors of an upcoming American tour of The Gathering and Lacuna Coil. Holy Jesus, don't you dare sell out all the tickets in all my local venues. Obviously Lacuna Coil is headlining because their super over-produced mainstream garbage album is beloved by all the kids who should stop listening to music. There's a very good chance that I will leave after seeing The Gathering. Mark saw Lacuna Coil last year (that was his fourth or fifth time seeing them) during their Karmacode tour and he was never disappointed by them until that show. I saw them during their Comalies tour before even knowing them and they were phenomenal; it's such a shame that Century Media is whoring them out so much. And that they're going along with it.
But really I'm just ecstatic that The Gathering will be touring in America again so soon (and hopefully more than a handful of shows on the east coast). Neither The Gathering nor Lacuna Coil's websites say anything about it though, so maybe it is just a rumor... for now.
Ugh. I just did some more research... The two are only playing together for six shows, two in America, four in the fabled Canadias. Closest one is near Pittsburgh which is five hours away. Fucking hell.
Mark and I considered going to Amsterdam for The Gathering's A Sound Relief DVD recording (of which I finally ripped the audio and put on my iPod)... but c'mon, it's Amsterdam and a DVD recording, if the show sucked (which is did not, the DVD is awsome) there's still tons of shit to do in Amsterdam. I'm not driving five hours to see them not even headline a show and then be bored in Pittsburgh with tons of college kids.
A few years back I drove to Pittsburgh to see an online friend and also Strapping Young Lad. Those were different circumstances. As much as I love The Gathering, the NYC show I saw of them still remains my favorite show ever, so I'll have to pass on Pitt.
Wow, what an entry. From excitement and anticipation to dismay in just a few paragraphs. This is why I don't write stories: my blog entries are way better.
Wednesday I started downloading a torrent claiming to be a The Gathering DVD show in Chile. But their website says they're recording that show later this month (A Noise Severe, a heavier DVD show than Sound Relief). I might wait it out just to see what it is. Maybe it'll be 4.4 GB worth of lesbian porn and I'll still come out on top.
...That link is not actually to lesbian porn. Why would I link to lesbian porn on this site? All the multi-girl sets these days are pretty much that. Which is... depressing and exciting at the same time.
And I know all of you will be excited by this news: Seeking Solutions with Suzanne is the show being edited right now in here. It's fucking awful. Old geriatrics television. She looks older in the show than she does on the website. And chubbier (but TV adds ten pounds, right? Which led poor Julie Dwyer to death, no thanks to T.S. Quint. Hell yes, Kevin Smith movie references!) Luckily the editor and other girl (she's either an assistant editor or the client, because she's sitting on the couch instead of at a machine) make a lot of jokes about it. But if she is the client, that's awful that she's making fun of it.
One of these days I'm going to find out where the bathroom is in this building. Two cups of coffee and I haven't died or felt the need to start crossing my legs.
I want to sneak out early today. Can't wait to see 300.
Anyway, about yesterday... I finally got the urge to sit down and talk with her. We met at the diner because I didn't want to risk seeing the roommates at the apartment. It was hard to even look at her at first (and my annoying tendency to crack a smile during extremely serious business will likely get me killed one day while being interrogated by the FBI or the mob or something). The end result was nothing like I expected. I got home by 11 pm. Perhaps next week we'll see each other again when Lauren and Co. from Michigan come to the greater Philadelphia area. That should be a good neutral situation.
Totally random: Did you ever want to know the lyrics to the Ewok victory song as the end of Jedi? One of the lines is totally "Power, we got power" which starts bringing back flashbacks to DBZ opening themes. Yikes. (Yes, please ignore my handle... need to change that somehow).
Ooh, the producer of the Algebra show just gave me five of the episodes DVD. He thought it was funny when I said I wanted to get my friends and I really drunk and force them all to watch the series straight through. I didn't think he'd actually give me copies of the show; he even printed labels on the discs!
I should get back to work.
