Every once in a while, I pull something decent outta thin air. The creativity comes in waves; the trick is to find something productive to do while the juice is on a downturn. Coloring/lighting a "scene" is easy and doesn't require a lot of inspiration. Drawing is where it comes and goes. Sometimes it all just comes out shit, and I have to either keep drawing and drawing and drawing, which is typically a waste of time, or I find something else as productive, like coloring or designing. Then, when I get the itch again, I doodle and realize it's time to draw again.
A friend of mine keeps bugging me to draw her a lion with a skull face. For a tattoo, I think. So it's gonna be on her forever. Hey, no pressure, right? So today, in the middle of inking a random panel (again, inking doesn't take much. It really is just tracing.) I picked up a piece of paper and just started drawing a lion with a skull head. It was one of those things that came so perfectly I had to put it on paper as fast as I could, so in about ten minutes I came up with this:
Anyways, I really like it. So I made a copy for myself and gave her the original. I think she liked it, too.
Okay, back to drawing.
