So, this is the first time I've done homework for here and it's been a long time since I've done any at all.
I don't do new Year's resolutions. I don't see the point in picking an arbitrary date and deciding I'll change this then, I'll do better, but, from then.
The sort of things that go in people's new year resolution tend to be the harder things, give up smoking, lose weight, go to the gym more etc.
Why wait? Why try to do such a big change overnight? If big changes were easy everyone would be successful. But the reality is they aren't easy, they require constant effort. Assigning a random future date allows you to procrastinate, some might say it allows you to prepare, but if you're sat there saying I really need to quit smoking, I need to go to the gym etc then why not start then?
The collective pressure to succeed can't help surely? In the UK you can't pick up a paper or watch tv in the month of January without seeing an abundance of ads aimed at those with the most popular new Year's resolutions.
Big changes don't need extra pressure. Let's be honest life of hard enough for us all in our own ways without us making it more difficult.
So for me, if I see something in my self or my life I need to change, I start then. Start small, take it a day at a time, and don't beat yourself up if you have a bad day or even a bad week or hell, even a bad month!
