I've been working on my MFA applications all day today. It feels good and motivating to finally get over my fear and inertia, but I have the most annoying headache from lying down too long to write in my notebook. (For some reason the computer has been making me get blocked so I switched to paper to work on my essays and everything started flowing.)
I kind of disappeared for a few days there. The honest reason was probably guilt over not writing everyday. I've been using this blog to motivate myself to accomplish my goals, but sometimes creating a public record just makes me feel guilty when I fail to do something rather than actually getting me to do it. I don't understand me sometimes. Sigh.
So what I do this week. I had a Cider and Black (hard cider and blackberry current) at a place called Shakespeare's Pub for a friends birthday. At work I finished an article that will be printed in the January issue of Podiatry Management. That's kind of exciting, though I'm still not clear if its me or my employer who gets the byline.
I went and saw a Hold Steady concert at Cane's. I thought they were one of my favorite bands, but I wonder if I spoke to soon. After all I only discovered them about 4 or 5 months ago. They weren't that good live. The lyrics were all garbled although as much as Cane's gets the best bands (I got to see Regina Spektor there last spring) they have always had horrible acoustics and they are not the best venue in which to see a rock concert. Two other bands who I was not expecting played before The Hold Steady - Art Brut and The Blood Arm. Art Brut was frickin' awesome I must say. I might buy one of their albums. Their band had such chemistry. They genuinely enjoyed playing together. Initially though I found the lead singer kind of disturbing 'cause he looks just like this guy I knew in collage who I had a following out with. The guy I knew was brilliant, but manic depressive, and has quite the talent for self-destruction. If we were still speaking to eachother I'd tell him that I witnessed visual proof that he could be happy and productive if he moved to London and started a band. The Blood Arm were frickin' crazy and though some of their act seemed a bit amateurish the charisma of the lead singer and the raw potential of the group were striking. By the by, I learned from looking these bands up on wikipedia that they are both post punk revival, the same style as many of the bands I enjoy listening to on San Diego's independent radio station 94.9. I had no idea. It just goes to show you that even the things you take for granted like the music you like often has a secret life and a continuity and kinship within a larger history that you never even knew about.
Should I go to Ren Faire tomorrow? I kind of want to stay home and work on my apps some more, but I am in a guild now, the most laid back guild that ever existed, but still a guild none the less. At the same time I really feel like I'm getting somewhere and I'm worried I'll lose the momentum if I try to do it in the evenings during the week. There's just nothing like a full day of working on something to get you motivated. Hmm

Thanks, mine too. Have you been to the zoo to see the baby okapi yet? She's awesome. Bounding around everywhere and generally experimenting with the workings of gravity.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you about my set comment, I rarely check them. I didn't rent the theatre, my friends just happen to own the only indie theatre in town and agreed to let me use it. Glad you liked it! Hopefully I'll have more coming soon!
