A few times recently, while responding to a post on social media, I've thought of typing a response beginning "I don't mean to get too political...", but usually ended up leaving no response. But that shouldn't really be the case. I've always been opinionated, some may say far too much so, but I've always been happy to be challenged on my views. Be it from friends, family, acquaintances or strangers I've always enjoyed having my option challenged. I've always felt that a belief you couldn't defend isn't really worth having. After all, I have a pretty narrow view of the world; I can only filter it through my own experiences, so alternative viewpoints can be refreshing. And yet, I've always been cautious about stating my opinion. I genuinely believe that the majority of people that I interact with on social media would happily call me out on an opinion if they disagreed, without resorting to calling me an idiot flat out. I love social media to keep up with people's lives, and to share news and funny material, but I wouldn't mind if everyone shared their views either. Maybe like livejournal without all the teenage angst. Maybe we all should get a bit more political; after all, the professionals seem to need the help.
