and now, for some whine (and not well-aged stuff either either - no, this one's bitter).
most recent excitement in the aftermath of the flood - my temporary housing is in a dorm with no quiet hours and last night was senior class bar night, so even as exhausted as i was from moving yesterday and general stress, i slept only intermittently from 11:30-3:30 with horrible nightmares, finally broke down crying at 3:30 when the drunk people in the common room wouldn't shut up despite my begging them thrice, called a friend who lives off campus, drove to his house, finally calmed down enough to get to sleep around 5:30, and slept through my 10am class.
because of the housing crunch with all the construction on campus this semester, there's no other room on campus for the housing office to put me in. For now it looks like i'm going to leave all my stuff in boxes in the room they assigned me to yesterday, but i'm going to impose on friends in quieter dorms for places to sleep for the next two weeks (at least, they say) until i can move back into my room. I don't like imposing on people or feeling homeless - i'm quite an unwilling nomad/bum.
the people in the housing office are being as kind as they can be considering that they can't really offer me anything better. they say they'll take the 8 of us who got displaced out for dinner when it's all over. they're paying for the cleaning of all my clothes and linens that the nasty water got on, and reimbursing us for other stuff that got damaged.
alas, the computer is dead - it was in its bag on the floor when the flood came, and it won't start now. fortunately i didn't lose any documents because i made a backup of everything on the comptuer in the spring, and i haven't saved anything on it this fall (here's to the network drive!), and the college is going to replace it. meanwhile, i'm using public computers and friends' computers.
