Well, I figure it's finally time to make the update to end all updates. I've been living in indy for about a month now, and I haven't really said much about what was going on in an equivilent amount of time. My life changed really rapidly it seemed, and I'm still trying to figure out where I stand and where I'm going.
The other day I realized that I was living in this kind of weird alter-reality that I could never hope to completely grasp. Namely, my life has become a set of choices which I made, but I didn't really chose my life. Every day, I consciously make small and large choices that effect the outcome of my life, but I never choose exactly what that overall life will be. And because of that, I have ended up in this weird life which I only partly understand, as I feel that I only really chose the path that led to it, but not the destination.
All things considered, things have been pretty good since moving to Indy. Amongst a long list of people I keep meaning to call back, I've been doing a lot of different stuff and getting out a bit. This weekend was particularly interesting... I ended going back to terre haute not once, but twice in two days. The hour long drive each way kind of sucks, but it was worth it. Friday I drove out to see a friend I used to work with and do some other stuff. The other plans fell through, but I did meet a really cute girl there, and finally found an application for the retarded business cards that my workplace gave me ("oh here... why don't you write your number down on this and I'll call you next time I'm in town..." heh).
Saturday went out to a club to see some DJs spin. A good friend of mine was gonna go, but he didn't have a ride so I drove -back- down to the haute to pick him up, and it turns out the show was well worth it. Adam Jay ripped up a sweet detroit techno set, but everyone else performing pretty much sucked it up, including Derek Plailaiko, who train wrecked three times. Blah. The whole thing really motivated me to start making music again, which I actually started doing the other day. I haven't sequenced any full tracks yet, but I have a lot of good leads and ideas sampled out and such. I wish that mp3.com wasn't all fucked up so I could actually host any of my work on a real server.
Another interesting thing happened this weekend, too... for the last four years, two particularly rare items have eluded me... things that I have tried to hunt down, and always failed in trying to aquire them. Somehow, fate was always against me, it seemed. And within the course of 36 hours, both of them finally fell into my hands as a result of sheer coincidence and dumb luck. It's funny how things work out sometimes....
