I realized something very strange yesterday. It occurred to me that I am the subject of a mass conspiracy to turn me into a yuppie. For some reason, my parents, my friends, my relatives are all convinced that now that I'm out of school and working, I will somehow be grown up and whatnot. It seems as if my life was meant to fall into some scandonavian design nightmare.
I think my mom, in particular, was really excited to help me move out and get a bunch of new stuff... furniture, clothes, dishes, etc. For awhile, I was ok with this, because I was eager to start a new phase in my life. Then I realized, I don't really need any of this crap.
I'm so tired of consumerism. I haven't been working fulltime long, but I already see my life as a huge series of transactions. Money in, money out... get money, buy stuff, pay bills, repeat. I'm not sure what I want to do with my life to break this cycle, but I have plenty of time to figure that out.
