Because my favorite person asked me to tell it - I will tell you all how last weekend (Ring Of Fire) went.
BACKSTORY:
In Central New York there is a town called Canandaigua. This town, once upon a time, was inhabited by the Iroquois Indians (Seneca Tribe) - and they called the land "The Chosen Spot" [Can-an-Dai-Gua].
Legend has it that there was a time when a great fire-breathing serpant (old records of real-live dragons?) brought termoil to the people and dwelled undisturbed atop one of the Nation's great sacred mountains. [Its really just a really big hill ... but they didn't know that]. The Seneca Indians sent out their greatest of Warriors to end the people's strife.
There was a great battle - and in the end, the [Dragon] was slain. The beast rolled down the sacred mountain, destroying everything that lived which lay in its path (trees, grass, bunny rabbits). Once the creature hit the surface of Canandaigua Lake - the water seemed to have set fire. For miles up and down the finger lake there was flame signifying the end of the great beast's reign.
Until very reciently (within my lifetime) - the sacred hill would not sustain life like it once had. It remained barren of trees and wildlife ~ and so the Seneca Indians named it "Bare Hill". Late Summer, the Indians would celebrate this day - until the American settlers came and made treaties with the indians ... compromising their freedom. The Seneca Indians asked the American People to honor their day of freedom in the same manor as they always have. Canandaigua is now one of the few remaining US territories which still honors every treaty which had been made with the Native Americans of old.
So every year on Labor Day weekend the Seneca Indian Chief will to to the top of Bare Hill and light a great bonfire. The fire can be seen for miles up and down the lake - and residents who see the fire will begin their own bonfire or ignight their own red flares. The fires start and spread along the boarder of the lake until the whole of Canandaigua Lake is surrounded in fire. This is the Ring of Fire.
MY STORY
Friday night - Fae took WAY too long to get ready to go ... and we arrived WAY too late to my friend's home where several of my old friends I'd left behind were playing with their level of sobriety. We hung out - I was happy to be back amoung friends.
Saturday we woke at my parent's home. Left for random made-up errands to buy time before we picked up Gothic Elf and DoomBird. Then we picked up Stable Boy and took them back to my parent's place to see Ring of Fire. We detoured for food / drinks - nearly none of which were consumed. More people showed up but the people I most wanted there were the three (four, if you count Fae) I drove there myself (because the price is gas it too crazy). The next people down on the list included ... the girl without a nickname and Fallen Angel ~ neither of them came but I had seen them the night before so not all was lost. Other people showed - and my mom's side of the family came to stay for a few weeks. After letting our bonfire burn down I drove DoomBird, Gothic Elf, and Stable Boy home.
I was very very very very very tired driving the long one road home - and Fae was already asleep beside me. I had to stop at a rest area for a few hours to nap before I had enough energy to take me home.
Sunday Fae and I got her tat's updated and we ran around crazy-like for her job and I really didn't get it.
Monday was back to the daily grind and nothing noteworthy went on. Its sad when the highlight of your week is that your company is issuing a "Dress Down Day" and I got to wear jeans to work.
Last night Dee came over to visit Fae and I - but I have had this almost subcutaneous feeling of just plain icky and ill which made me become the pooper that I am ... and retire to bed before Fae was tipsy and Dee was watching Rocky Horror. I think I remember waking up and realizing Rocky was on ... but thats about it.
Anyway - I hope I start to feel a bit better .... Ring of Fire was more of a blast than I let on - it's just that it was a whole week ago now and I used up all my energy typing the backstory the way it should be told.
I'll talk to ya later!
