San Diego Comic Con Top Ten List
By SpookyDan
All of us at Bloody Disgusting from the management company to the reporters to the wonderful helpers and supporters were all at this years San Diego Comic Con.
It has been a whole month worth of goodies packed into a few days, with very little sleep. I hope that you all enjoy the coverage. We have so much stuff coming for you this week that it's going to be bonkers trying to get it all online!
Top Ten Highlights of SDCC 2008
1. The Wrath of Con: Yes, Bloody Disgusting did help host this event with IESB.net, Lakeshore Entertainment, Anchor Bay, Harley Davidson and a slew of others. I cannot remember a party as good as this one turned out in a long time. The guest list was a bitch to get through and many people did not get in, but if you didthis was the party to be at. Celebs were everywhere, free booze, naked women, good music, gift bags and fun times for all. Hats off to Robert Sanchez and everyone else involved for hosting this amazing night
2. REPO the Genetic Opera panel: I really love this movie and from the enthusiasm in the crowd at the panel, it seems like I am not alone. I am honestly really proud of everyone involved in this film, especially Terrance Z, Darren Bousman, and Darren Smith, these three guys with the help of The amazing dudes at Twisted Pictures have what I believe will be an OSCAR hopeful in the music category at next years Academy Awards. ***Listen up Lionsgate execs, this movie is not for everyone, but it certainly IS for all of us who like out movies and music on the edgier side!
3. REPO The Genetic Opera Party: I for one, never thought I would see the day that I would be in a VIP section hanging out with Ogre of Skinny Puppy, Bill Mosley and Paris Hilton. People cannot get enough of this film and its incredible cast. The party was jam packed energy and even though the drinks were expensive, everyone was having a blast.
4. Getting to interview the cast of Twilight: Its official; this franchise is the new Harry Potter, hell; this could be the new Star Wars! The fans are rabid and the cast and crew were amazing to meet. Stephanie Meyer was much cooler than I had expected, and Catherine Hardwick has a bonafide mega-hit on her hands. The posters were selling for $70, fans camped out overnight just to ensure seats in the giant Hall H, and The fire marshal was called in more than once to part the seas of people at the Summit Entertainment booth!
5. Interviewing Ted and Sam Raimi: I covered the press line for Drag me To Hell, Sam Raimi's return to horror, and I got just a few minutes with him, but when I turned around to leave I spotted Ted Raimi just sitting in the corner chilling, so we spoke about Midnight Meat Train, Shocker and where horror is going. That interview was great
6. UTA party and hanging with The Rue Morgue Crew and Warner Brothers Canada afterwards: Some things are better left unexplained.
7. Jeremy Kastens' intimate after party: with Nixon Suicide, Andy Gould, and Jason and Elvis From Autonomous FX, The Rue crew, and James Duval.
8. Rob Halls Laid To Rest after Party: After walking the red carpet with Halls gang, and partying with them at the Wrath of Con Party, we snuck our way up to room 740 at the Hard Rock to find this party in full on raging mode. Laid To Rest stars Bobbie Sue and Thomas Dekkard, helped host a room party that surely must have been shut down soon after we left.
9. The Friday The 13th Panel and press line: Yes! Jason is back and this time he is even more vicious and nasty than we have ever seen him before! The dude who plays Jason Voorhees is Derek Mears and he was excited to meet me! That was a huge surprise, wow! The producer Brad Fuller really wants this film to do justice for the fans, I really do believe that
10. BDTV: We will announce its official arrival soon, but for now I can say that we started making (what I am hoping) will become the premiere source for horror video content online. Micah Gallo, Jessica Slagle, Mr. Disgusting and the kick ass folks behind the scenes at 60 Frames, Station 26 Publicity and The Collective; are all working with me to help this become a reality. I cant wait to show you what we have been cooking up. This is my own Macabre Society coming to life with a different name.
So much more happened that I am too tired to write about. (James Gunn interview, the Saw V panel, Running into David Slade and Ben Templesmith at 3am while going from one party to the next, Having a smoke break with Niles and Sara, meeting BD fans, Ryan Schifrins Spooks Panel, Hack Slash and Suicide Girls panel, seeing great friends, I could go on, but my brain has ceased to function. (Please forgive my typos and grammatical errors!)
