Lies, and one very kick ass meeting!
First I will start out on a positive note. I had another meeting today about what the future holds for me as a contributing member of the horror community. In the past week I have had a bunch of meetings with some very powerful people. And by powerful I mean people that have a huge impact in my life. These meetings are imperative to have when it comes to seeing the big picture. I am growing, as we all do, and I want to keep my eyes and ears open to any opportunity that comes up because, if I am not looking for it or working towards it, it may just pass me by. I cannot thank these people enough for their time, advice and encouraging words! You know who you are.
Now the negative I wonder how much info I should be revealing in a blog, often times I write them and never post them because of the too personal nature of the topic. Not that I am keeping anything to myself, if you know me then you know that, aside from work stuff, I don't have that many secrets. I don't like lies and secrets often lead to them.
The other day a good friend blankly lied to my face about something. I don't think this person has any idea that I know it was a lie, and as well I don't think that this person has any remorse or conscience about lying to me. They see it as a just cause and that's good enough to let them sleep at night.
But here is the problem with that, I can't sleep at night knowing that a trusted friend is willing to lie to my face in order to benefit themselves. It's a dog eat dog world out there, but I am of the belief that it doesn't have to be. Hurtful words and lies are unnecessary especially in the small communities that we travel in. Regardless of what your chosen profession is, the truth in these small communities tends to show itself when its least expected. If you are a pretentious artist, then it will eventually show through in your work. If you are a filmmaker who is struggling to make a movie, lying about the state of production is just detrimental the longer the film remains unmade. If you are a musician who has drug problems, the problems will certainly show up when you are playing a gig or recording a CD. We all talk to each other in our respective communities and reputations are hard to get and even harder to un-get. Your reputation as a human being and how you treat others is way more obvious to those around you than it is to you.
I am not perfect and do not claim to be perfect. I have let good friends down and try to be better about it by learning from my mistakes. So here is one to learn from. Why put faith in the people in your life who cannot be honest to you. We all get busy with work and with life, and my frustration is not based on that. I understand the hectic schedules that we all have. To me being busy with life and not being able to go out at night is not a lie; it doesn't even need an excuse. We tend to cover things like this up by saying that we are busy with work or not feeling well, when really we might just want a night in. Again, not the kind of lies that I am complaining about.
This particular lie is a much grander one that will have long lasting impact. As a matter of fact, I don't think it's the lie that bugs me so much as the fact that buried within the lie is a much bigger truth. A truth about a person that I trust, its no secret that its very disappointing on many levels.
With this I leave you with the Top Ten Lies of the week
1. Repo! The Genetic Opera Sucks and doesn't deserve attention
2. Text messaging is fun.
3. I don't want to produce my own TV show
4. Fuse Network, Spike TV, and MTV all know about the TV show I want to make
5. 10,000 BC deserves the amount of money it made last weekend.
6. I am not willing to work hard to achieve my goals
7. Your opinion (and mine) are not worth shit. Studio heads want our opinions
8. Midnight movies are boring and no fun
9. Twilight the book series has no impact on today's culture
10. I do not want you to post a comment on my blog
