Today has been one of those days you don't forget.
The low point: with my knife drawn, I was moments away from slicing up a road rage psycho who followed me into my work and pushed me. Lucky for him it didn't come to that. I don't believe in knifing a guy for pushing me, but I have a broken left hand with three pins holding it together, and if you're fucked up enough to hunt a person down and assault them with their back turned, and that person happens to be me, I might just shank your sorry ass.
The high points: the most satisfying comedy show I have ever done happened tonight. Most of the audience was comprised of recovering heroin addicts and AA grads, and the comics tonight made a lot o people happy who could really use some joy in their lives. Also it was my first time ever headlining a show.
Right when I get home I instinctively read the Guardian Unlimited news website. I read that eighteen of the world's poorest countries will have their debts to the World Bank and the IMF wiped out. Seems like something we should have done long ago. Those poor bastards are starving to death yet we demand billions of dollars from them while our corporations rape their natural resources. Sweet Jesus.
For the first time I stepped way out of the comfort zone of saying my jokes ver batim, and allowed myself to develop a steady rhythm between my jokes and the reaction of the crowd. What a unique pleasure it is to make people laugh.
