I got back from the hospital just a little bit ago. When I came home from work I had a message on my machine that they had taken my dad to the hospital and he had to have emergency surgery.
I called the critical patient rooms and talked to him a little bit and then drove into town and hung out with him for a while.
Evidently he had some sort of blood clot or blockage in his bowel so they had to "cut a twelve inch piece out of my exhaust pipe" as he so delicately puts it. I got there and he was all stuck up with IV's and moniters, it looked pretty bad but he was feeling good.
I'll head back there in the morning to check on things. I'm waiting for the test results to find out if they: 1) Need to do more surgery, 2) Need to transfer him to a normal room for recovery, or 3) Can discharge him.
I told him thanks because I called into work and used him as an excuse to come in late tomorrow.
