A zillion years have passed since I last blogged here but life occurred (I'd say "happened" but that's a bit cliche) in a large and technicolor way. A birth, a move, a new 90 minute commute...leaves little time to clickety clak on the old word processor. So what do I have to say? I love being a dad...having a child (now he goes into hard core cliche mode) is the most life changing event (outside of death I suppose) one can experience. Suffice to say, the journey has been worth the 90 minutes of collective sleep since he was born....
Enough 'bout me...back to the biz of obsessing about music....Have y'all heard the new Silverchair CD?? That's right...Silverchair. For those who tuned out after the grunge-lite of their breakthru "Frogstomp" back in the mid-90s...the band has reinvented itself as the purveyors of glorious 21st century pop masterpieces (beginining with 2002's "Diorarama"). Working with the likes of legendary arranger-composer Van Dyke Parkes (Brian Wilson, Randy Newman), Daniel Johns and company have fashioned another gem that will be obsessed about by pop snobs for years to come (myself included). In an era where The Album has rapidly lost its relavancy, its comforting that bands such as Silverchair & Radiohead have soldiered on. More to the point, its even more comforting that new music still gets me giddy.
