Rough day yesterday. My best friend Kym's 12-year-old doggie, Perdie aka. Mama Merd, went into heart failure late in the afternoon. They went to the vet and after treatment it looked like the worst was over, her condition stabilized and they went home. My partner, Catherine, and I went over to Kym's to sit with them and have dinner.
Things got worse.
We eventually had to bring the lil' gal back to the vets and have her 'put down.' I chanted a lil' prayer during the final injection to help her pass over and looked in her eyes, patted her and tried to take in all the fear and pain to make the journey easier. She was so scared. Kym was a mess. Very sad...
This one's for you, sweet grrl. Safe journey.

As I mentioned in my journal, my mom loved that book as well. And I loved it, too. When I was a teenager, I went to a Unitarian Universalist queer get-together with my youth group. I met a lot of middlesex/transgendered people. They were all so nice.
I kind of miss going to church. Yeah, I was agnostic even then, but I don't remember anyone ever discussing God. Not even during the sermons.
but there's also something so magical and sweet about being there at the threshold of death when someone that you love crosses over it...it's where we're all headed.
i'm glad you could be there for her.
