Today's "What the ----?" File:
Even I couldn't make this one up... Courtesy of my regular
scan of web sites this morn' while practicin' insomnia:
The May 18 Federal Register announces a Notice of Funds Availability
(NOFA) for an emergency pilot program by the US Dept. of Agriculture
"to provide guaranteed loans for developing renewable energy systems
from the use of diseased livestock as a process raw material for the
energy source." What's that again? Diseased livestock, as in all the
cows killed during the Mad Cow scare...
The summary continues to say that the sponsoring agency, the
Rural Business-Cooperative Service (RBS) "expects projects to be
constructed that will produce energy through the destruction of cattle"
because "traditional rendering processes were determined not to effectively deactivate the infectivity of prions."
Still don't believe me?
