A Declaration of Insanity.
Not really, but it just sounds cool to start off with. Ok, so I've been referred to as "Weird Smith" for awhile now. I know this is also because there are three Smiths in my platoon. But I have also just adopted a personality that everyone refers to as weird. Now, this isn't one of those multiple personalities kind of things. Its just a type of reaction to my surroundings, both physical and the people there.
It starts of with my smile, I can have the weird ass smile, that a couple time in the past has been called my "shit-eating grin). Its just a normal smile for me that some people have different opinions about. I have this smile in family pictures, when I smile at a girl I like, or its followed by me laughing at something. But somehow the times I pull off this smile around these guys gets me branded weird. I'll smile on really shitty days, or moments. Most of the time I'll just randomly smile with something towards a fake moral kind of smile. One time I was told not to smile then someone declined that order and said I was the only person that was smiling.
I'm also good at just acting weird when I want to. I'll make up random comments to people, just things that stick out, sorry I don't have any at hand to list off.
I don't know anymore. What gets me labeled as "weird" here, back home is a normal me. Or maybe I dont do this stuff as much. The thing is I have two different versions of myself: Josh Smith and Specialist Smith. Neither of them coexist. Josh Smith doesnt take orders, but he gets shit done when he needs to, he has more motivation, more fun, does thins when he wants to, and doesnt need anyone to help him do about 85% of the things he does aka(work, school, errands, projects). He is self-reliant and organized. Specialist Smith takes orders, reluctantly, waits for orders, always in uniform, has to have a battle-buddy to go places, is vigilant in his missions, follows his chain of command, says "Yes, Sir," or "Yes, Sergeant." Puts up with every situation and just expects worse for him to adjust to. Can sleep in the woods, eat an MRE, go days with out showering, but shaves everyday)despite the extreme razor burn. Can be in 115 degree weather and know it's not bad because its gonna get hotter. This isn't negativity here, its just what I go through and adjust to living with. Specialist Smith doesn't think life is hard, doesn't think I have have it hard, most of the time I think i have it easy. I see the world around me, and know I could have it worse. I listen to the gripes and complaints of my fellow soldiers and try to tell them we got it sooth, it could be worse.
My main point is I cant wait to take off the uniform and be Josh again......I love being a civilian.
But as much as I hate being a soldier sometimes, I love the benefits, the easy access to big weapons, and the camaraderie that can exist.
