I don't turn into a super B*tch very often. But if I do it is because you have done something to disrespect me or be dishonest to me. Tonight I had 2 people do both of those such things.
Ok think about this scenario and what you would do. You are running a show, and due to that show theoretically the venue becomes yours and you are in charge of making sure the show is ready for the preformers. Someone offers to help you set up. You accept even though you know its just as easy to do it on your own. You tell that person what the task at hand is and you start to go about expecting them to help you by doing what you instructed them to do. But then they start to do it a different way. Now that is acceptable because there are multiple ways of doing things, and it doesn't mean necessarily that one way is wrong and one way is right. But first of to start doing it that different way without making verbal communication and therefore undermining the person who gave you clear instruction. Just wait it gets better. Say that person who you are letting help you verbalizes this, "You know we've ALL decided that you need more theater experience for this job." What would you say to this person who has just clearly underminded you while they were working under your direction. Instead of making an emotional outburst about it, I walked away and busied myself with another task that needed to get done to further show preparations. I do agree that it would be nice to have more theater experience and that it would make me a better tech. However the principle of the matter with this situation is the other party clearly displayed lack of professionalism, and took a shot at my ego...but mind you I have a pretty low self esteem so I don't have too much of an ego. Or at least I don't think so...correct me if I'm wrong. To top it off the person in question who was correcting me is the same person who stayed at the job site long after they were off the clock during a special event they did not pay to attend. Therefore doing something unethical that if caught by management could have been fired on the spot. Is that the kind of person you would take advice about how to do your job from? I think not. To top it off when I was venting to someone about the matter it was brought to my attention that there was discussion behind my back and this same person had disrespected me by LYING about me...saying that I was in panic, in over my head, and that I wasn't handling my job. If you ask my client, or my coworker for the show you would know that in no way what so ever was I worried about the show. The only intense emotions I have expressed were excitement, and a slight discomfort due to unexpected visual contact I guess you could say. Panic, no not over this lil show.
After our first show 2 of the preformers and I walked backstage to find a maze talent reaching in a freezer that is used for ice packs, and grabbed out a Full Throtle Energy drink...mind you it was one that I bought. I had not put any of them in the freezer, but this "talent" had taken the time to chill it for himself and come back to claim it once it was cold. I went and talked to him personal and explained that our greenroom is not to be visited by maze talent, and that we respected their personal space of their breakroom. I also had to explain the concept of taking something that doesn't belong to you is concidered theft. And do you know what he had to say about it...not sorry or that he'd reimburse me...nope...he said, "I saw that there were 4 of them there, what's the big deal?" That's when I tried to call Tech 10 a few times, but no such luck. So I had to go above that and call Entertainment one, who ended up contacting Alpha someone, who contacted loss prevention. The cast and I gladly filled out statements. While we were waiting for Loss Prevention to arrive, another maze talent came to complain that the same "talent" was caught digging through his bag. Thanks to that talent he was able to identify him by name and we no longer were going to have to go through the maze and ID him. I can only assume he was fired, c-filed and what not. The second time they escourted him away from the maze he was back in his street clothes, and he saw me and eyeball f*cked me. My skin crawled. I felt sick to my stomach the rest of the night that people can be so dishonest and disrepsectful. I made my friend walk me to my car, and in turn I gave him a ride home. I can't believe what a night it was. I think I have every reason to be a lil stirred up. But I hope once I go to sleep this all goes away. Because tomorrow is another day, and I can't wait to go to work. I love my show so much, and I really love my job. My cast are all super nice, and their agent, and my current supervisor is the kindest most interesting man ever. He was my spot of sunshine tonight when he brought us all cookies. Even if I'm not theatrically trained enought to do so...the show will go on.
