Growing up in a Female household I grew up with a lot of RomComs. There was always this one set up in the movies I always hated, when the hero is an average or below average guy has to win a girl who is in a horrible relationship. The guy she's trapped with is somebody who is perfect but has the worst possible personality and is completely abusive in every way.
Never liked these type of movies because the "hero" was meant to be who the audience is meant to root for and the "villain" they go out of their way to make him recognizable but then just pad the reasons to hate him.
Just the standard pandering to the audience and making sure they are on the same page of the plot. Always had the problem of this because if the villain was so horrible why would she be with him to begin with.
Not realistic and would never happen in real life.
Until I found myself in said scenario.
I recognize that I don't live in a movie, that she just can't run away with me. The situation is so complicated that it needs a flowchart and powerpoint to get outsiders up to speed. In the end I won't magically end up with a huge fortune that will make sure the Ever after will be great all round and life is better for everybody involved.
I'm going against a guy who is not quite half my age, and makes $200k annually. Good looking guy but..he makes her weigh herself before giving her food. Makes her do sexual acts daily that she has stated she does not like. Also has medical issues that keep her trapped.
I'm choosing to fight, she was my friend for years before this but the full details had not come out till recently.
I'm blogging here because this is behind a paywall and I don't think most people read blog entries from male members anyway.
