You know what excuse really pisses me off? "They're a company. They're supposed to act in their own self-interest." Whenever some company screws some poor guy over or lays somebody off, that's okay, because it's a company, and somehow that exempts the people working there from things like morality.
What the hell? I'm supposed to act in my own self-interest too, but that doesn't give me permission to drop a safe on a guy and then not so much as send him a get well card. (Yes, that actually happened to my cousin.)
People need to stop excusing companies for their bad behavior. They aren't any more entitled to it than you or I. If a company does something particularly assholish, you should shun it just like you'd shun an individual who did the same thing.
