Yay, Monday's over with! Well at least work wise.
Over the past couple weeks I got turned onto two new bands. Seeing how I'm listening to one of them right now thought I'd share. Both from unlikely sources but surprisingly cool (see below for a free album link & I promise it won't give you a virus)
For all of you out in SG land who read my blog (or I should say Indie Buddhist & wsoxfan
) know that the girlie had turned me unto a moe. and I've become a moe.ron, they really are one of my favorite bands now a days. anyway was on YouTube checking out some of the moe. vids and on a whim decided to check out some of the "related" vids to see what I could see. Stumbled upon Bon Iver playing "Skinny Love" live. Liked it so much that of course I booted up the itunes and bought it. But then after listening a few times over the next couple days I found myself back buying the whole album. Which it seems none of us ever do with the advent of the digital world ya know. And as I think about it, it's even more ironic that I just typed that considering.....
Bon Iver (aka Justin Vernon) had left North Carolina and headed to Wisconsin to get away from the breakup of his band, his relationship and bout with mononucleosis (according to Wiki) and spent the winter out in the woods in his father's hunting cabin. With just a guitar, his brother's drums, a simple recording set up and whatever was laying around and emerges with a really great album. Here's this guy goes into the woods, all Kerouac style, and lays down some magic. Don't need all the glitz and glamor, the flash and bang, the instant gratification and compartmentalization to create something that'll touch the soul. How refreshing.... with all of this said, and it was a lot, I'd highly recommend spending a buck and get Skinny Love!
The second "turn on" was a random email I got from a buddy of mine with the following link: http://music.slightlystoopid.com/album/acoustic-roots-live-and-direct
I went to the site that evening, which I hardly ever do, only I was not ready for them to be streaming the album in it's entirety. Yeah sure I'd expect some samples but the whole album, interesting. Then for an email address you can get a zip file. Slightly Stoopid reminded me of Sublime but with a more reggae influence. Don't know any of their other music but thought this was pretty cool. Especially with summer time coming around. Give everyone a little something new to listen to out under the sun ya know.
Keep smiling folks, cause life really is that cool ya know
