I saw Pan's Labyrinth tonight at the Egyptian Theatre. The theatre is an old opera house converted into a movie theater, so it was cool seeing a movie in a slightly live acoustic space. The sound wasnt the best, but good enough to get the point across. The place was aparantly build by the Masons, so I had fun finding Masonic symbols in odd places.
The movie was great. It had a touch of wamth in a cold and cruel, slightly morbid atmosphere. I picked out alot of religious symbolism throughout, and especially liked the burial speech. I look at the film as a sort of metaphore for life- being away from another realm with a possibility of return, but only if your "essence" remains intact. I especially liked the baby killer, it reminded me of some of the creatures from "Silent Hill".
Overall, it was a great film. I enjoy movies that arouse thought, especially thought for emotions having to do with emotional pain. Or maybe thats just what I see in it because of something about myself, but who knows. It was fun either way.
