I'm not really sure why I held off so long with Bojack, I'm a huge Will Arnett fan, Alison Brie and Aaron Paul are great and I'm not averse to an edgy, somewhat screwball animated show.
I think I was just expecting some Rick and Morty level gag fest with little depth and a lot of pop culture references. I had absolutely no idea I was missing out on a drama with more depth and a better representation of mental health than most live action shows.
The writing is absolutely superb, it's immensely sensitive for something so frequently crass. There are bits that have had me cry laughing for just being so wildly inappropriately awful and there's been moments I've had to sit and pause for a while in order to have a real sob.
It lands punches almost everything else misses and I've found so few shows really manage to touch me on the issue of genuine social anxiety.
I binged through the first three seasons in a blink over the weekend and I'll have caught up by the end of the week. Its not always easy watching but fuck am I grateful it exists.
