Just finished Sharp Objects and I have to say, I'll be amazed if there'll be two better performances from female lead and support actors before the Emmys. I hope they both get nods if not the gongs.
Amy Adams is the obvious high profile star and leads a strong show from the front. Clever, thoughtful writing, some brilliant direction and superb cinematography. A ridiculously high value production from start to finish.
But the performances from its cast really brought it home. Clarkson was especially, spellbindingly detestable as the shockingly damaged matriarch. I haven't loved a performance and hated a character in tandem so rigorously in years. Top, top work.
To echo what I said after two or three episodes, big, big recommend.
