I was recently watching “Men in Black 3”, and the scene in which J thanks K at the end brought a tear to my eye. I’m often moved by scenes like that - those special moments that give you glimpses into a character’s true nature or moments of heartfelt appreciation between people. Afterwards, I reflected on just what it was about that fictional scene that evoked genuine emotion, for it was just that - a work of fiction, not an actual event. I came to the conclusion that the ideas of sacrifice and affection and inspiration alone are enough to resonate with the soul. Ideas are powerful forces, none of which should be taken lightly. An idea in the right hands can uplift an entire civilization, while an idea in the wrong hands can tear that same civilization asunder. It goes to show you just how much power we wield as a species. In a world of powerful forces of nature, our thoughts can give rise to forces that can match or even outmatch them.
What thoughts have caused you to tear up in joy, sorrow, or both? What ideas have powered your machinations or spurred you forward? I believe it is worth reflecting upon what drives you at your core, for you alone could be the first domino in a sequence that could topple many others, for good or ill.
