A few things....
About Being Lame.
Yeah... So... I have no game whatsoever. I went out with a friend last night to a party. Which, was good, since all I had planned to do was last night was listen to music and play Madden, watch reruns of The Practice at 1230, and go to sleep. So yeah... party = girls. Me = no game. Not that it even has to be GAME, but no girl skills whatsoever. It's not that I lack confidence or anything. I just feel super awkward around girls, hell, around guys too, oh well. Maybe next weekend.
New DVDs
So I picked up the "Another State of Mind" DVD last night. Good shit is all I can say. Mike Ness looks and seems so different back then. Hard to imagine that was 20+ years ago. I also picked up a DVD called "Burn To Shine - Washington DC 1-14-2004" It has no REAL point to it, but, well... here is what the box says..
This film was shot in 9 hours on one day, in the living room of an empty, freezing cold house that was soon to be burned to the ground. The bands played one song each, without an audience, preforming for the cameras alone. The sound is live, without overdubs or pre-recording and the preformances are uniquely vital and intimate. It's an abstract snapshot of a musical community on a particular day in a place that no longer exist.
BTS DC is the first in a series of films that attempts to document bands in America playing live in spaces that are slated to be demolished. Placing them in a context relative to one another and their chosen city, and capturing forever what it means to see them up close in the most intimate of spaces
On the DVD are The Evens (Ian MacKaye's new duo, which is fucking GREAT by the way) Garland of Hours, Ted Leo, Bob Mould, Weird War, Q and Not U, French Toast, Medications.
Check it out.
