By this time next year, you'll wish you started today.
There were two MAP tests today. During the first one a student and a para were on a laptop in the little office off the lab so she could read the test questions to him. The lab doesn't have a wireless router so any laptops in the lab have to connect to the router in the next room which frequently cuts out. Well, in the middle of this kid's test they lost the connection and the test crashed. I had a spare ethernet cable that I got for something else months ago and I was able to string that from the lab into the office and get the test back up. Thankfully the test appears to save after each question so the kid was able to pick up where he left off.
This afternoon we had this month's character assembly. The charter trait this month was Respectful. At each of these assembly the sixth grade stuco members perform a little skit to demonstrate the character trait. The skits are generally awful and can't be heard beyond the first half of the gym. This time was no different but it was the best by far because one of the students was wearing a stocking hat (I'm assuming as a costume even though it was an indoor setting) and his line in the skit after two of the other kids threw paper on the floor instead of the trashcan was Hey, pick that up. That's disrespectful. The resource teacher I was sitting next to said He should take the hat off, that is disrespectful. It helps that the kid annoys me in general but I found the teacher's comment to be pretty funny.
In between tests and and classes I input tests scores but my main accomplishment was designing a bookplate to go into the dictionaries given to the winner and runner-up in the school spelling bee. Originally I wanted to use a template in Publisher but it wouldn't let me import a picture so I ended up making it in Excel. Probably not the obvious second choice but it ended up working out really well.
After work I took a nap before dinner because I was tired and I am adult capable of making adult, nap decisions. It was a good nap but I woke up and my leg was asleep. Not the obvious kind of asleep but the kind of asleep that didn't become apparent until I made it into the kitchen. That is the worst kind of asleep. I was hobbling around the kitchen, clutching counter tops and cabinets like my life depended on it. Ridiculous.
I went and saw the new volunteer kid tonight. We went to Sonic and I helped him proofread and edit his research paper on Steve Jobs. We made a lot of little changes as well as some significant ones. Hopefully all for the better. I kind of miss writing papers but it is definitely more fun to proofread and edit someone else's. There is a lot less work involved and very little responsibility. We ended up losing track of time and the visit ended up lasting just under an hour and a half. I like that a lot better than making an hour round-trip for a twenty minute visit. Due to the long visit I ended up having to stop at McDonald's before I hit the interstate again for a bathroom break. I probably could have made it home but McDonald's was there and I didn't feel like driving in discomfort because there is no point in that.
On the way home I drove at exactly the posted speed limit, both on the interstate and the highway, instead of five miles over like I usually do. I wanted to see if that helped my MPG and I want to say that it did. I'm sure a lot of it was mental but it felt like I was crawling, especially when I was driving 65MPH on the highway.
Thanks to having Monday off, this week has gone by really fast. It is hard to believe tomorrow is already Friday. I am not looking forward my long as day with work at school and then the theater. I probably should have gone to bed an hour ago but I am going to do that now so I can at least get a somewhat decent amount of sleep before my long ass Friday.
