I've been in the city this last week looking for an apartment. Utterly no luck at all. Not entirely sure what I'm doing wrong, but any rate. I got to see a lot of people whom I love and hadn't seen in ages, and had a lot of fun. I miss Nadja though and can't wait to go get him from the boarding place where he's staying.
I read Don DeLillo's The Body Artist which was fucking brilliant and wonderful with some just stunningly beautiful sentences. It's deceptively simple though, or maybe I just wasn't being careful, and I'll need to read it again before having a real grip on it at all. I also read Intimacy by Hanif Kureishi which is about a man deciding to abandon his wife and two children. This was also just a great book. Really bitterly funny and sad. Very honest and utterly beautiful and fragile feeling. There was one big element in the plot that I thought was overdone and cliche, but overall it was just awesome. I read So Long, See You Tomorrow by William Maxwell which I didn't particularly like. It was a tad overwrought small-town western feeling. His writing was a bit too dry and dull for me as well. Worth reading, I suppose, and there were some lovely bits, but I didn't like it much.
Anyway, yeah
