So....
I hit my two year mark with Staples today. I've hated working there for several months, the pay is barely above minimum wage, and despite my senority, they have refused to give me full time hours. I've been living with between 12 and 25 hours a week for months. Needless to say, $450 paycheck minus $300 rent and $100 food is not helping my savings account. Aside from that, the staff has gotten catty, and the work enviroment has gotten stale. It's time to move on.
I was supposed to interview at Winners today, to apply for a cashier postition at the store being built in my town. Still retail, still low wage, but I figured that maybe they would give me more hours. I was also going to meet for lunch with a couple who thought they might be able to participate in a promotional video for their small inventing company.
Although Winners would have been a change from Staples, I was hoping that the inventing company would offer me a chance to work with them, as it seemed like I would be working on fun, creative tasks.
Well, I went out to lunch with the inventors today, and instead of giving me a few days work on their video, they offered me a 36 hours a week, $10 an hour job as their assistant!
I am so excited! I'm going to be doing secretarial stuff, but I also get to help with stuff like dying fabric, sculpting, painting and design. Plus they're 100% comfortable with the fact I'm leaving town in September, so I don't even have to lie about it! After only meeting them three or four times, I can already tell that we totally click.
I'm handing over my letter of resignation to Staples tommorow, and moving on from the retail world!
