Well, I've arrived in NYC and just had my first class of graduate school this morning: "The Total DH Lawrence," taught by this dapper octogenarian gentleman who very much resembles a hip, bespeckled Mr. Magoo, squinting through these huge round glasses with red frames to match the rest of his red-themed outfit (red tie, red plaid shirt, skinny red belt). He's the hippest 80-something I've ever seen, that's for sure. Told us how he used to walk around his house as a young boy with a smuggled copy of Ulysses, as it wasn't available in the US legally at the time, but apparently his parents had some literary world connections (they also scored him a copy of Lady Chatterley's Lover when it was banned in the US...)
The move to NYC was mostly good, some snags here and there, but generally pretty smooth, if not a little exhausting. Got logistical help from an old high school friend I've become re-acquainted with, who has helped me immensely...I owe her big time and feel lucky to have had someone here to help me with this insane cross-country move.
I feel like I barely exist on this website anymore. I may need to spruce up my profile a little bit, and get a bit more active with the webbernetting. I'm down to only like five or six friends on here, I believe...I'm sure I've been a victim of people cleaning out their friends list and writing me off as a dusty old relic suspended in internet time. But maybe I can reclaim my former "glory" on here, we'll see...
All right, now a little photo tour:
Here's a shot I took in the 116th St subway station yesterday while waiting to take the 1 train downtown:
The view from my dorm room...100% brick and windows. Rear Window anyone?
And my Uncle Gabby doll with a NY background:
The 116th St entrance to Columbia, with activist tables and paperback vendors (non-allowed within the hallowed University gates):
"Welcome to the Ivory Tower, my children!":
This is a very unbecoming state for an Ivy League trashcan!:
The last remaining pay phones at Columbia? (And that room for rent seems suspiciously cheap):
More pics to come, eventually...

I'm heading down to Taos, New Mexico, this weekend, to stay at the Mabel Dodge Luhan House, so I'll try to get a photo of the toilet seat that DH Lawrence painted whilst supposedly under the influence of various and sundry psilocybins. Verily!

Quality over quantity, monsieur!!!
Splendid journal, splendid pics.
(More posts!! The sedentary masses living vicariously through you demand it!)
Ciao,

Look into checking out the graphic novel section of a library. You can get volumes of fables that have about 10 issues in each one. That way you can read them all in order. I have most of them, as well as the individual comic books, so if we were still in the same town you could borrow them. Alas, no.
How it the True Stories coming along? I was listening to the soundtrack at work tonight because I was all alone and nobody came in to buy shampoo. It was awesome.
molti baci!
