I'm a good drummer. A DAMN good drummer. Some call me a great drummer, but I don't listen to them. I'm a GOOD drummer. I'm not a good drummer because I've got incredible chops or independence, I'm a good drummer because I understand a drummer's job. The job of every drummer is two-fold "Control the tempo of the songs and control the dynamics of the songs". If you're not changing the dynamics of the song in an interesting way, no one is going to care that you're doing 32nd not paradiddles between you hands and feet at 200bpm. You need to LISTEN people. LISTEN to the damn song. Does it REALLY need all that double bass? Isn't there a more interesting change you could do besides moving your right hand from the hi-hat to the ride cymbal?
I'm done lecturing. Please forgive me. Listening to bad music makes me like this. But if you're interested, Sutter Cane finally has some music up. Doubt the first things I said in this journal? Click the el-linko and find out if I was lying or not.
