The acting dean of the department I applied to responded to my angry letter with a one-paragraph "we're always striving to improve, thank you" note that couldn't have been more devoid of content if it had been triple-strained through their lawyers' starchiest boxer shorts. Though that's been foregrounded in my blog, it hasn't much been registering in the rest of my life. Was in Chicago with my main squeeze last week for a great convention/conference thingy. Had a lovely time, saw/met some lovely people and was back on the plane before I noticed (again) the simple, seamless, mostly-on-schedule excellence of cultural events run by anarchists. Sweet.
